Finally some good news for those in Kathmandu who have long harboured an interest in acquiring skills in bartending, cocktail-making and other related areas. The enticingly named Cocktails and Dreams (CD) School of Bar and Beverage Management (SBBM) has opened its doors in Nagpokhari, aiming to provide these very services. The official launch held on Friday, was inaugurated by Tejendra Nath Shrestha, President of Restaurants and Bars Association of Nepal.
The SBBM offers comprehensive training programmes in all disciplines of cocktail making and bartending from customer service to bar etiquette, product knowledge to mixology among other services. Yangdup lama, Mixologist and Director of CD food and Beverage Industry at the Hyatt Regency, Delhi, who was present at the programme, said, "This opening is a landmark in terms of streamlining beverage services in Nepal." Lama has had 14 years of experience as a bartender and is clearly proud of what he calls his "art." 'Making cocktails isn't just matter of mixing different beverages, it requires figuring out precise proportions as well as presenting the drink in an attractive way."
At present, the school provides a three-month diploma course in bartending, an intensive training programme suited to novices and amateur bartenders that costs Rs 25,000. Also on offer is a one month crash course for bartenders wishing to enhance their existing skills price at Rs 15,000. The SBBM also provides a variety other classes including Work Flairing, training for waiters and waitresses, Monile and Beverage Consultancy services as well as other tailor made training courses. The school also provides job placement to well-performing candidates and is soon planning to established a Spanish language course as well.
SBBM has the capacity to accommodate 20 students in a class and seven students have already been admitted.SBBM is affiliated with Global Bartenders Training Canada.
